Bill DeRuiter ’09 took over the women’s basketball program in the 2016-17 season after serving as an assistant coach for one season. In his first year as head coach he led the team to the most season wins in ten years with a 16-16 overall record. The team also advanced to post-season play in the CCAC Tournament and the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament. In his second year at the helm, DeRuiter led the team to a 17-17 record in the 2017-18 season, advancing to the CCAC Tournament semi-final game, and the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament Championship game. The Trolls upset three top 25 ranked teams in the NAIA.
Previous to joining Trinity’s coaching staff, DeRuiter gained coaching experience in various sports at the high school level. He assisted the baseball, boys’ basketball, and football teams at Chicago Christian High School from 2005-09. He also was on the basketball coaching staff at Evergreen Park High School from 2011-13.
DeRuiter graduated from Trinity in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and history. He served as the Director of Alumni Relations at Trinity from 2014-2016. In addition to his duties as head coach, he also serves as game manager of athletic contests and intramural director.
DeRuiter and his wife Nichole live with their sons Trey and Jameson and daughter Charlotte in Worth, Illinois.
